Who Are You?
What would be your answer if I asked you to describe your identity? Would you give your name? Many of us feel defined by our role in the family, (mom, dad, sister, brother, etc.). Others feel their job description/success identifies them. There are many other ideas and feelings you might use to identify who you are. It could include likes, dislikes, hobbies, personality traits, etc. But these do not identify who you are. They are just facts about you that can change with time.
If you are in an abusive situation, you may be depending on the approval or “love” of another person to validate your worth. You eventually find your identity in that person and may feel you no longer have an identity of your own. No matter how hard you try, or what you do, you feel like you don’t exist apart from this person. In the meantime, you feel unloved, unworthy, a failure and alone.
I have good news! You are not alone! You are not unloved or unworthy!
If you are a believer in Jesus Christ, He has rescued and redeemed you and you are someone special in His eyes! You have your identity in Him.
If you’re not a believer, He loves you and wants you to put your trust in Him.
Jesus has a lot to say about your identity in Him. He wants you to know He is there for you! You can turn to Him and depend on His endless love for you. He is always available to listen to your thoughts, dreams, needs, as well as your struggles. He wants to give you direction and guidance.
God has the answer to our identity issues. It’s all about who He is and who we are in Him. He is with us no matter how difficult or painful the situation may be. If you are a believer, He sees you as His precious child and the apple of His eye. He has good plans for you!
If you’re not a believer, He loves you and is waiting with open arms. Walk into His embrace! If you have questions, need help or want someone to pray with you, please see our contact page and someone will be happy to speak to you.
I am thankful to know my identity in Christ.
